Forged from heavy 1/8” thick stainless steel plate this jewelry dish has such a satisfying weight.
Instead of hammering this dish out over an anvil this particular piece was hammered out over a large granite field stone, which imprints itself on the steel and adds a very deep and raw texture on the outside while retaining a smooth hammered finish on the inside. As you can see on the edge there is a place where the stainless steel actually started to melt away, stainless steel has a melting point of about 2,600° F and it exceeded that just by being in my coal forge for just a few seconds too long which just goes to show the powerful heat that was used to forge this one of a kind jewelry dish.
This jewelry dish has been polished on the outside to show off the stone hammered, raw finish but has kept its dark forge finish on the inside which adds great contrast, the dish measures just over 3 3/4” in diameter.
